About WVNano
The WVNano Initiative at West Virginia University is the state of West Virginia's initiative for nanoscale science, engineering and education (NSEE). The Initiative also includes researchers at Marshall University and West Virginia State University.
The WVNano Initiative, which officially began in 2004 under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development at West Virginia University, was initiated to bridge multidisciplinary research and academic and business operations resulting in the advancement of WVU’s NSEE efforts.
The WVNano Initiative is fully aligned with Vision 2015, the state's science and technology plan, in which research and innovation are key drivers of West Virginia's new, diverse and competitive economy. This alignment has catapulted WVNano into successful collaborative efforts with industry, government agencies and academia.
Goal
Our goal is to provide the infrastructure necessary to stimulate innovative research in the area of nano-enabled science, engineering and medicine while integrating education, workforce development and outreach programs. WVNano provides research and education experiences for a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, high school teachers and institutions in the state and enhances the prosperity of the nation by preparing our citizens for the increasingly knowledge-based economy.
Support
The WVNano Initiative is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the state of West Virginia (WVEPSCoR via the Higher Education Policy Commission) and the WVU Research Corporation.
