WVU SRF adds Sample Prep Lab

(from WVU Today) West Virginia University recently celebrated the opening of an important new component in its suite of shared facilities that offers researchers from the University, government laboratories, and private industries access to cutting-edge materials science and engineering equipment. WVU's Shared Research Facilities - known as WVUSRF - held an open house to introduce scientists to its new Sample Preparation Lab on the Evansdale Campus January 9. The new lab is home to a range of technologies that researchers consider vital to the preparation of materials for microscopic evaluation.
"This is an important new addition that should help researchers from all disciplines," Electron Microscopy Technical Lead Dr. Marcela Redigolo said. "Having the new WVUSRF Sample Prep Lab located in the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources should provide a central location for scientists who need these unique tools to move their work forward."

NanoDays 2012

Thin films demonstration

March 17, 2012 was WVU's first ever NanoDays event, held in partnership with the Children's Discovery Museum of West Virginia. Approximately 80 visitors (children and parents) took part in nanoscience demonstrations, including making thin films, learning about special tools, and listening to a special reading of "Alice in Nanoland." Six tables were set up with over 12 hands-on activities. Over 20 undergraduates, grad students, staff and faculty members volunteered at the event. Thanks to the Children's Discovery Museum for all their help, their volunteers and for providing a wonderful space for NanoDays!
